Who We Are

Master Watershed Stewards in Cecil and other counties have designed, obtained funding for, and installed water quality improvement projects within their communities. They have also assisted county government staff in tracking, registering, and monitoring stormwater best management practices (BMPs) to ensure that those practices continue to function as intended to help improve the quality of local rivers and streams. The 2017-2018 class installed a rain garden at the Cecil County Rising Sun Branch Public Library.

What We Do

The Cecil County WSA is operated through a partnership between the County Department of Public Works Stormwater Management Division and the University of Maryland Sea Grant Extension. The program trains and supports community leaders to serve as Master Watershed Stewards in the protection, restoration, and conservation of local watersheds by reducing the negative impacts of stormwater runoff that enter local rivers and streams. Master Watershed Stewards are leaders in their communities who are trained to identify and assess areas to implement stormwater best management practices, educate local citizens and assist the County in reaching its Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP) goals.

If you are interested in enrolling in the 2021-2022 Watershed Stewards Academy class or have any questions about the program please contact Marshall McSorley at mmcsorley@ccgov.org or 410-996-5265.
