Who We Are
The mission of the Upper Bay Museum is:
- to collect, preserve and display historical documents and artifacts;
- to use them to teach the Heritage of the Upper Chesapeake Watermen;
- to maintain the century-old H. L. Harvey Company commercial fish house as a museum building;
- to promote activities to conserve and propagate Chesapeake Bay waters, marine life, waterfowl and upland game.
The goal of the Chesapeake Wooden Boat Builders' School is:
- to teach wooden boat building skills using readily accessible materials as one way to perpetuate the maritime heritage of the Upper Chesapeake region.
All funds to rebuild, operate, and improve the museum and its artifacts and exhibits are raised by the volunteer members through visitor donations, gift shop sales, membership dues, and our annual events:
Teen Boat Building Class (Summer)
Upper Shore Decoy Show (October)
What We Do
We are an all-volunteer non-profit museum, dedicated to preserving the lifestyle of the commercial waterman and hunter of the Upper Chesapeake Bay.
We are also affiliated with the Chesapeake Wooden Boat Builders' School.
The Upper Bay Museum was formed in the early 1970s from the Cecil and Harford Hunters’ Association and Museum, Inc.
The Boat School started in the fall of 1989 in conjunction with the Harford Community College’s non-credit course curriculum. The school was enthusiastically supported by a group of dedicated volunteers who enjoyed building and showing others how to build wooden boats.
