Who We Are
The Cecil County Help Center, housed within the Human Services Division of the Cecil County Department of Community Services, provides emergency assistance and volunteer services. The Help Center is a non-profit organization that began in 1971 as a Volunteer Services Program. It developed into the Help Center in 1973 and now operates a variety of assistance programs in conjunction with Social Services programs to meet customer-specific needs. Led by a paid staff of three, a dedicated group of volunteers provides services, which are supported by monetary contributions and donations of goods and services from the community.
What has made the Help Center so successful are our many partnerships throughout the county. These partnerships with local businesses and community service organizations have allowed us to provide a comprehensive array of services to those living in Cecil County who are in need.
What We Do
The Cecil County Help Center was designed to meet the emergent needs of Cecil County citizens living on the fringes of society. A paid staff of three and a pool of volunteers oversee the daily operations. The Help Center feeding programs include the Help Center Food Pantry, The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and monthly Pantry on the Go Produce Distribution. Partnerships have been established with The Maryland Food Bank, food wholesalers and retailers, community organizations, Cecil County schools, private citizens, governmental food programs, and other charitable organizations to maximize resources and share donations of food. Food referrals consist of canned, frozen and perishable items. The food pantry is stocked with Federal Food Commodities, donated and purchased food product. All food referrals require an interview with Services Intake at the Cecil County Department of Social Services.
