Engaging your Employees
Volunteer Cecil is a great resource for discovering ways to engage your employees in service to
the community. The site is home to a variety of organizations offering opportunities for
employees to volunteer, either individually or as a group.
Everyone benefits from volunteerism:
- The community at large, employees, and business. 96% of businesses report that employees who engage in volunteering show greater engagement than their peers who do not volunteer.
- Companies experience a 52% reduction in turnover among new employees who take part in CSR initiatives like team volunteer days and events. At the same time, 71% of employees consider it essential for their employer to engage in philanthropy.
- In a survey by Deloitte, 92% of HR executives agree that volunteering contributes to the enhancement of employees' professional skills.
- Studies show that 80% of employees in volunteer programs feel that group volunteering enhances their connections with colleagues (https://blog.catchafire.org/5-corporate-volunteering-stats-you-should-know, 3/19/2024.
Getting Started - Advertise Volunteer Cecil in your company's newsletter or intranet communication network to promote individual volunteering. If your company offers paid time off for volunteering, let employees know of the benefit.
- Decide what causes are most closely related to your business or ask your employees to choose which local non-profits mean the most to them. Be sure to recognize your employees for their service to the community at your annual events.
- Want to start an annual day of service for employees? Consider forming an employee team to support a Cecil Cares project on October 3rd or October 4th. Email volunteercecil@ccgov.org for more information.
