Volunteer Opportunities From: Volunteer Cecil

Volunteers will clean and organize the shelter, manage grounds cleanup for the shelter property and the adopted highway (Court House Point Rd.) in Chesapeake City.

The Beautify Bayside project includes the clean-up and beautification of two of our Residential Program’s town homes, which are connected and centrally located in Elkton. Bayside's project goals include: 1) shed base removal 2) tree trimming 3) removal of hedges, shrubs and smaller trees 4) stump grinding 4) cleaning and landscaping of flower beds 5) removal of yard waste to provided receptacles. Volunteers will work alongside the disabled individuals Bayside serves to create a functional green space for the home's residents to enjoy and entertain friends, family and visitors.

We don't need your time, but we do need some supplies.

We are collecting donations of items frequently used in our programs for breakfast! We are collecting the following items: cans of ground coffee (regular, no flavors), bottled juices, coffee creamer (powdered, unflavored), 5- or 10-pound bags of sugar, cereal, Pop Tarts, granola, single-serve instant oatmeal packs, bagels, breakfast syrup, hot sauce, jelly, pancake mix, and cases of water. Items will be used at the Mary Randall Center, Cecil County Men's Shelter, and Wayfarer House for Women and Families. Donations may be dropped off on 10/4 from 9:00-12:00 at the Mary Randall Center, 401 North St., in Elkton.

For this project, volunteers are not needed but people can help by donating requested items.

We’ve coordinated a Cecil Cares project since 2016! Come join us as we clean up trails, do a little gardening, clean the building, and put up the big tent for our fall events. It’s a fun time for everyone!

The CHEP Outpost Community Mission is a hands-on volunteer initiative focused on supporting the CHEP Outpost, a thrift-style storefront where every item makes a difference. Volunteers will assist with receiving donations, sorting through clothing and household goods, and organizing items to be displayed or stored. This work directly supports CHEP's mission to support veterans and the local community through housing and supportive services. Every task — from unpacking a box to neatly folding a shirt — helps create real change for those rebuilding their lives.

The project will focus on engaging Cecil County Government employees to participate in a clean-up on and around the County Administrative Building. Outside of picking up trash employees will conduct fall maintenance on the rain garden located by the employee pavilion. The project will be led by the Cecil County Department of Public Works (DPW). The Solid Waste Division will provide trash pickers for employees to utilize during the pick-up. The Cecil County Stormwater Management Division will supply trash bags, gardening tools, and map out the cleanup area. To expand the impact of this project DPW will reach out to other businesses and County/State entities that reside on/around Chesapeake Boulevard to encourage them to participate in the Cecil Cares Day project by providing volunteers to clean up their property.

As a volunteer, you’ll be a part of something truly meaningful. Together, we’ll beautify and enhance the shelter’s surroundings, transforming it into a safe, welcoming space for families. You can contribute in ways that match your skills or desires – from landscaping, planting flowers, and creating vibrant community spaces, to painting walls that will light up a room. Even if you prefer quieter activities, you can help by reading books to children or engaging them in fun and educational activities (under the supervision of Deep Roots staff) that foster a sense of security and belonging. Every task, no matter how big or small, has the power to brighten a family’s day and inspire hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Soak in the fall weather, get a little exercise, and enjoy a conversation with other volunteers while working together to clean up trash, debris, etc. in the downtown Elkton area.

Volunteers will help build a block paver semi-circle with small paver walkway around the flagpole in the front of the American Legion building.

Our Mary Randall Center bathrooms and shower rooms need a fresh paint job! There are three small areas to be painted. Volunteers bring a can-do attitude, and we will provide them with a light breakfast to boost their energy!

The picnic tables and trash cans at the North East Community Park could use a fresh coat of paint to add more charm and character to the space. The Town will provide paint, brushes, step ladders, and handle trash pickup as needed.

Volunteers will paint the walls and ceilings of the new Mommy and Me House; change outlet covers; trim shrubs, weed, and mulch; decorate rooms for women and children; and organize and sort donations.

Donation drive at the Elkton Walmart to collect food, clothing, and hygiene supplies for the Cecil County Help Center.

Volunteers are needed for our fall cleanup of the riparian area along the Susquehanna River; an appreciation lunch will follow at Community Connecting Us in Port Deposit.

Volunteers will assist in receiving toy donations at the Toys for Tots building at the Big Elk Mall. Groups wishing to collect toy donations prior to October 4th, are encouraged to do so, and should reach out to Betty Dean (443-309-4430) for more information.
