Volunteer Opportunities From: Volunteer Cecil

The Help Center has many Spanish-speaking clients that come in needing food. We need Spanish-speaking volunteers to greet them, get some basic information about their household, and help them shop for their groceries. Everyone that comes into the Help Center for assistance deserves to have someone that is able to communicate with them, so we can meet their needs the best we can. 

Donation Sorters help sort and organize the many donations that come into the Help Center. Volunteers receive and categorize donated items, prepare them for stocking, and may also greet community members dropping off donations at the back door. Some items may be heavier, so volunteers should be comfortable lifting boxes as needed.

The Help Center is always in need of:

Canned goods - vegetables, fruits, beans, soups, canned meats

Pasta & Rice

Cereal

Toiletries - shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste

Please consider organizing a supply drive!  Spread the word in your office, gym, civic group or team that you can help others by donating supplies!

Enjoy driving? Have free time during the week? The Cecil County Help Center needs YOU! We are seeking a crew of dedicated, friendly volunteers to pick up food donations from local stores Monday to Friday from 8 AM – 1 PM. Volunteers may serve as often as they are able; morning and afternoon shifts are available. Volunteer drivers use our pick-up truck and must possess a valid driver's license and be able to take a computerized driving test and on-the-road training. The position does require some lifting of boxes up to 50 lbs. We do have two volunteers going together to pick up the food so you will have a sidekick!

This position sorts incoming deliveries such as produce, frozen items, dairy, and bread, then places cold and frozen items in the appropriate storage areas. Volunteers also restock the pantry floor’s refrigerators, freezers, and bread shelves. This role requires the ability to lift boxes weighing at least 25 pounds.

Receptionists welcome visitors at our front desk and help support smooth operations at the Help Center. Volunteers answer the telephone, check clients in on the computer, and provide friendly, respectful service. Volunteers in this role should be warm, attentive, organized, easy-going, and able to communicate effectively. Maintaining confidentiality is essential. We are seeking several volunteers to be part of our regular schedule as well as substitutes.

Join the Help Center as a Produce Assistant! You’ll help neighbors choose fresh fruits and vegetables from our produce fridge and weigh their selections. This role is perfect for friendly volunteers who enjoy chatting with people and promoting healthy food choices.

Volunteers stock pantry shelves during times when clients are not shopping, including before we open, during our 12–1 closure, and at the end of the day. This is a great role for youth or for anyone who wants to help for an hour here or there.

Shopping Assistants help support our choice-model pantry, where clients are able to shop for food items based on their household size. Volunteers assist throughout the pantry to guide shoppers, explain item limits, answer questions about available food items, and ensure a smooth and respectful shopping experience.
